Taking a trip to Loveland Ski Area with kids starts with one fact that surprises almost everyone: Loveland runs a licensed childcare center that takes walking one-year-olds, and charges $105 for a full day. For comparison, Beaver Creek won’t take a child under 24 months and charges $277 to $305. Loveland childcare is roughly a third of the price and accepts children a year younger than the big resorts, and almost nobody knows it exists.
The center sits inside the Loveland Basin base lodge, near the Ski & Ride School, and runs 8am to 4pm daily. Half days are $80, hourly care is $25 where there’s space, and one rule matters more than the price: a parent or guardian has to stay on Loveland property while a child is in care. It’s an arrangement where both parents actually get to ski.
On the lessons side, the Loveland ski school age starts at 4. A two- or three-year-old can be in the childcare center all day but can’t take a lesson yet.
And the thing that makes Loveland the best ski area near Denver with kids is simply the drive: 53 miles west on I-70, Exit 216. No mountain-town traffic past the Eisenhower Tunnel, no four-hour slog, no overnight required. This is the whole point, since there’s no lodging at the mountain at all. If you want to turn this into a weekend rather than a day, the nearest real options are Georgetown just down the hill or Summit County over the pass.

How that compares to other Colorado Resorts
This is the part worth sitting with. Same state, same season, wildly different numbers:
| Resort | Youngest accepted | Full-day price |
|---|---|---|
| Loveland | 1 year, walking | $105 |
| Keystone | 6 months | $140-$210 |
| Breckenridge | 6 months | $235–$260 |
| Purgatory | 12 months | $160–$200 |
| Beaver Creek | 24 months | $277–$305 |
| Vail | No childcare at all | — |
Loveland isn’t just the cheapest. It’s cheaper than Beaver Creek by about $180 a day while accepting children a full year younger. On a three-day trip with one toddler, that’s a $540 difference – which is most of the cost of the trip for a lot of families.

Loveland ski school – starts at age 4
Loveland lists child lessons for ages 4 to 14. Childcare starts at 1. That leaves a real gap: a two- or three-year-old can spend the whole day in the childcare center, but can’t take a lesson.
That’s not a flaw so much as a different model. At Keystone or Breckenridge you can have a toddler in daycare and a three-year-old in a lesson simultaneously. At Loveland, three-year-olds go to childcare with the one- and two-year-olds, and lessons start the year they turn four.

The rule that shapes your whole day
A parent or guardian must stay on Loveland property while a child is in care. Loveland states this plainly, and it’s the same style of restriction Beaver Creek and Breckenridge impose.
In practice it means one thing: this is a both-parents-ski day, not an errand day. You can’t drop a toddler and drive to Silverthorne for groceries, or head back toward Denver for a few hours. But you can both be on the hill at the same time, which at $105 is the cheapest way in Colorado to get two adults skiing together with a one-year-old along.

Where is Loveland located?
Loveland is the best ski area near Denver with kids and here’s why.
Loveland is 53 miles west of Denver on I-70, Exit 216, and critically, it sits on the east side of the Eisenhower Tunnel. You don’t go through it.
Anyone who has sat in Sunday afternoon tunnel traffic with a car full of tired children understands why that matters more than any amount of vertical. It’s the difference between a day trip that works and a day trip that ends in a two-hour crawl.
For a family with a child too young for lessons, the math is straightforward: a day at Loveland with childcare costs less than a single day of childcare at Beaver Creek, requires no lodging, and gets you home for dinner.
Loveland vs Keystone with kids
These are the two obvious options for a Front Range family, and they’re genuinely different trips.
Choose Loveland if your child is walking but under 4, you want to go for the day, and cost matters. Childcare is cheaper than the big resorts, the drive is short, and nothing needs booking beyond childcare.
Choose Keystone if you have a baby under a year old. Keystone takes infants from six months, which Loveland cannot. Or if you want a multi-day trip with lodging, ski-in/ski-out condos and a kids’ lesson running at the same time as daycare. Keystone also starts lessons at 3, a year earlier than Loveland.
One Keystone warning if you go that way: it has two kids’ ski school locations, at River Run and Mountain House, roughly 10 to 15 minutes apart by shuttle. Check your confirmation before booking a room.

Where to stay near Loveland Ski Area
Short answer: you don’t. Loveland’s own FAQ states that “lodging is not available at the mountain.”
If you want to turn a Loveland day into a weekend, you have two directions:
Georgetown, just down I-70 on the Denver side – the closest beds, a small historic town, and no tunnel between you and the hill in the morning.
Find a place to stay in Georgetown for you Loveland ski trip!
Summit County, over the pass – Keystone, Dillon, Silverthorne, and Breckenridge, with far more lodging, grocery stores and restaurants. This is the better choice for anything longer than one night, and it’s where most families end up. I’ve covered that side in detail: where to stay in Keystone with young kids and where to stay in Breckenridge with toddlers.
Worth knowing: if you’re basing in Summit County anyway, Loveland becomes a cheap day inside a bigger trip rather than a destination. Ski Keystone or Breckenridge most days, and use Loveland for the day you want $105 childcare instead of $260.
Enjoy Skiing Loveland with Kids
If your child is walking and under four, Loveland is the best value day on snow in Colorado and nothing is close. Childcare at $105 takes a one-year-old that Beaver Creek wouldn’t accept at any price, you’re 53 miles from Denver on the near side of the tunnel, and there’s no lodging to book because you’ll be home for dinner.
The trade-offs are real but narrow. Lessons don’t start until 4, so a two- or three-year-old is in childcare rather than on skis. A parent has to stay on Loveland property the whole time, which rules out errands but means both of you actually ski. And if your baby is under a year, Loveland can’t help — [Keystone] and [Breckenridge] take infants from six months, and that’s the right call for that stage.
What Loveland really is: the cheapest way in the state to get two adults onto a mountain with a toddler in tow, on a weekday, without a hotel. For a Front Range family that’s not a consolation prize — it’s the trip you can actually do ten times a season instead of once.
Reserve childcare before you go. Spots are limited, walk-ins stop at 10am, and it’s the one thing that can’t be sorted on arrival — (303) 571-5580 x118.
