Marlborough New Zealand is a wine lover’s paradise. The weather in Marlborough is perfect for wine: warm, dry, and beautiful. That also makes the area perfect for something else: winery tours. There are so many wineries in Marlborough it’ll make your head spin. The Doubtful Sound cruise is the very best Fiordlands National Park excursion. On this day trip, you’ll get a wide variety of experiences, starting with a cruise across Lake Manapouri during the sunrise. Once you cross the beautiful lake, you’ll board a coach bus that takes you on a scenic journey through the heart of Fiordlands National Park. Keep your eyes open looking for Keas and other famous New Zealand birds. Finally, you’ll reach Doubtful Sound, where you’ll board a cruise and enjoy the sights and sounds of New Zealand’s most beautiful waterway. In 2018, we were living in downtown Chicago, in some ways living the American dream. We had recently graduated our Masters programs, had great jobs at places we enjoyed working, and had our own little nest in a downtown high-rise. However, something felt like it was missing. We didn’t have all of the freedom we craved. Each day we woke up was regimented. During each of the 5 weekdays, we woke up, walked to work, worked for 9 hours, walked home, cooked dinner, watched Netflix, and fell asleep. Each weekend offered a reprieve from this schedule, and typically involved gallivanting around Chicago trying to spend our way out of the feeling that we were stuck in a rut.
