Ha Long Bay Cruises are Good for the Soul

Ha Long Bay is fake. No way it was real. We had to be dreaming. Earth can’t be this beautiful. Ha Long Bay is stupid gorgeous. Like Wendy Peffercorn in Sandlot. Sitting up on that lifeguard stand looking like a snack.

Fact: Ha Long Bay has over 1,600 islands. No typo. One thousand and six hundred islands. Epic.

Not only is Ha Long Bay a showstopper, there is a lot to do! And the best way to see it is on a boat cruise. Why? Let us show you.

The Boat

Ha Long Bay is just that, a bay. Meaning it is a body of water folks. That’s right. And you know what they don’t have on water? You guessed it, hotels. *GASP!* But don’t worry, we have something better, a boat.

There are hundreds of boat tours of Ha Long Bay that you can book for pretty cheap. When it comes down to it, with food and drinks included, as well as tours and expertise, you’re probably spending less than you would on land.

Our boat fit about 20 people fully loaded, and really kicked butt. First off, the room was awesome. We had a queen bed and a balcony for morning coffee and relaxation. Probably the best room we had in all of SE Asia.

Second, the guide was top notch. He told us all about the history of Ha Long Bay, peppered in some hilarious jokes, and even taught us how to make authentic spring rolls!

Finally, the boat takes you to all the epic places in the bay. Having a floating home meant that we could make our way from place to place while we were eating, sleeping, doing Tai Chi in the mornings, whatever floats your boat!

Daaaang Zach is really wearing that life jacket like he’s doing it a favor. Yikes! Watch out ladies…

If you have the chance to kayak or stand-up paddle-board in a tropical wonderland, you have to take it. We went kayaking at the Tung Sau Pearl Farm and village, and loved every second of it. You will to!

Titop Island

Titop Island is a beautiful beach and hike in the middle of Ha Long Bay. You won’t be able to find it on your own, so thank the Lord we had a guide! The hike itself is pretty short, just a half mile or so, but the view from above is pretty darn good.

Once you finish the hike you can kick your feet up on the beach sipping a coconut and be grateful that you are kicking it in one of the coolest places in the world.

Cave Exploring – Sung Sot Cave

Exploring Sung Sot cave was an unexpected treat. We didn’t know it was a part of our trip, but holy cripes was it cool!

Sung Sot is an enormous cave. It takes more than a half hour to walk through the whole thing, and that’s walking with a hop in your step because Julie probably had to pee or something.

Stalactites and stalagmites were on and POPPING in this bad boy. HIGHLY recommend checking it out for yourself.

Ha Long Bay From Above

We had so much fun flying our DJI Spark around the bay. Flying high over the islands, getting unbelievable shots of the sunrise and sunset. We definitely recommend bringing a drone on your trip to Ha Long Bay, and all of SE Asia for that matter.

Welcome to Halong Bay! The perks of having a wife that is terrified to fly the drone, yet gets mad at me any time I crash it. 1. Sharing golden hours like these 2. You have to do it or else 3.
